Structured packing in other designs and materials: grid packing, mesh plate and pierced packing, ceramic structured packing and plastic structured packing – for fouling and corrosive services.
Structured packing in other designs and materials – such as grid, ceramic or plastic – for processes where standard metal packing is not suitable.
Choose This Product When
- You need a specific material, such as ceramic or plastic
- You need a design between wire gauze and perforated plate in performance
- Standard structured packing does not suit your process

Product Description
Besides wire gauze and perforated plate packing, structured packing is available in several other designs and materials, so the packing can be matched to the process, the temperature and the chemicals in the column.
Grid packing is the usual choice for fouling service, because its open structure is hard to block.
How It Works
All structured packings work the same way: ordered sheets or grids give liquid and gas a large, even surface. The design and material decide the balance between efficiency, capacity, fouling resistance and chemical resistance.
Grid packing is open and robust, so it suits fouling services and wash sections. Ceramic packing suits high temperatures and acids. Plastic packing suits corrosive services at lower temperatures.
Features
- Several designs and materials
Applications
- Distillation and absorption columns

Frequently Asked Questions
When is grid packing used?
In fouling services and where the liquid contains solids, because its open structure is hard to block.
Ceramic or plastic structured packing?
Ceramic resists acids and high temperatures. Plastic is light and economical for corrosive service at moderate temperatures.
