Catalytic distillation packing holds the catalyst inside the column, so reaction and distillation happen in the same column. It is also called reactive distillation packing.
Packing that holds a catalyst inside a distillation column, so that a chemical reaction and the separation of its products happen in the same place.
Choose This Product When
- Your process combines a chemical reaction with distillation
- You want a higher conversion rate and lower energy use
- You want to avoid an azeotropic separation
Product Description
Within a given space, catalytic distillation packing gives the largest possible reaction area between the material and the catalyst, and a high reaction efficiency. In reactive distillation the chemical reaction and the distillation are coupled so that each helps the other. This significantly improves the conversion rate and the separation, lowers the separation load and energy use, and can even avoid a complex azeotropic separation.
Reactive distillation is used, for example, in MTBE production.
How It Works
Catalyst is held inside the packing structure, so the reaction takes place in the same column section where the products are separated. As products are removed by distillation, the reaction keeps moving forward.
Applications
- Reactive distillation
- Production of fuel ethers such as MTBE
- Esterification and similar equilibrium reactions
Often Used in These Industries
Features
- Maximum reaction area in a given space
- Higher conversion rate
- Lower separation load and energy use
Frequently Asked Questions
What is reactive distillation?
Reaction and distillation take place in the same column. Products are separated as they form, which can increase conversion and save energy.
What do you need for a quote?
Column diameter, the catalyst type and volume, and the process conditions.
